Liverpool are reportedly working on a deal to secure the signature of Benfica and Argentina rising star Enzo Fernandez in 2023, and Jurgen Klopp must be even more desperate to land the player after he ran the show in the World Cup final on Sunday.

The tournament in Qatar has had many twists, turns and upsets throughout, but nothing could prepare football fans for the unbelievable clash between Argentina and France in the final.

Some of the biggest names in the sport took to social media to reflect on the rollercoaster ride which was the 3-3 thriller, with the winner only determine after a nail-biting penalty shoot-out which crowned Argentina as champions.

Former Newcastle United striker and the Premier League's all-time top scorer Alan Shearer dubbed the incredible match the greatest World Cup final of all on Twitter, gushing: "The biggest match on the greatest stage served up the best World Cup final of all time - I’m still coming to terms with being there. There were moments when you could only be swept away by the beautiful madness of it. Lionel, Kylian, thank you."

The Argentina squad now have their names written in history, and the 21-year-old Liverpool target took centre stage throughout the final in Qatar with an outstanding performance which ultimately earned him the victory that he deserved.

Over a gruelling 120-minute performance, Fernandez - who was dubbed a "game-changer" by reporter Roy Nemer -  took 118 touches, delivered 77 accurate passes, made one key pass, won a whopping 11 ground duels and completed 50% of his dribble attempts, also completing an impressive 10 tackles and making one last-man tackle to keep Argentina firmly in the game.

Fernandez won an individual accolade too, collecting the Young Player of the Tournament award after the penalty shoot-out victory for his contributions throughout the World Cup.

Liverpool are in desperate need of game-changing players in their squad as they sit sixth in the Premier League table, marking their worst start in the top flight for a decade, and it is without question that Fernandez could be the key to unlocking success at Anfield once again.

Therefore, FSG must do everything that they can to complete the signing of the Argentine stunner in 2023 and must provide Benfica with an offer they cannot refuse when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.
