Liverpool have held a long-term interest in Bukayo Saka, and a new update has now emerged from a reliable source regarding the player's future.

What's the latest?

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are in talks to negotiate a new contract with the young forward.

The transfer insider tweeted: "Bukayo Saka’s contract extension has always been priority for Arsenal, talks are still ongoing with his agent in order to reach full agreement on long term deal. Saka’s happy with Arsenal project, discussing on salary details."

The Reds have been linked with a move for the Gunners youngster for a number of months and were reportedly willing to make a move this summer.

FSG must act now

If Liverpool's interest in the 20-year-old is genuine, then FSG must act now to secure a deal before Saka commits his future to Arsenal with a new contract which could hinder their opportunity to lure the player from the Emirates Stadium.

Saka has been one of the hottest young prospects in football over the last few seasons and has even broken through to become a regular starter in the England team, playing a key role in the Euro 2020 campaign as the Three Lions reached their first final since 1966.

Last season, the 20-year-old proved that he is continuing to develop his talents with a number of impressive performances in Mikel Arteta's side.

Over 38 Premier League appearances last term, Saka scored 11 goals, delivered seven assists and created eight big chances, making 1.8 key passes and 1.1 tackles and winning 4.3 duels per game, and he finished the season as the Gunners' top scorer.

Saka's performances have attracted a lot of praise, and Ray Parlour shared his thoughts on the attacker following their victory over Newcastle last season.

The Arsenal legend said of the youngster (via talkSPORT): “Saka has been a revelation, he and [Emile] Smith Rowe have been the main guys up front creating chances.

“The way he took his goal today, it was fantastic. His movement, his runs off the ball, he’s got so much intelligence. He really can play anywhere.”

With that in mind, the signing of Saka would be a major coup for Liverpool if they could get a deal done, as he could be part of the forward line of the future at Anfield. However, time will be of the essence for FSG, given Romano's update that the youngster could soon extend his contract with Arsenal.
