Liverpool have been linked with a move for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa across recent weeks, but signing the Italian winger might not be the answer...

What's the word?

Jurgen Klopp's Reds have struggled in the Premier League this season and have consequently been tied to a raft of transfer rumours as they hopefully look to prepare for a summer spending spree to alleviate current concerns.

According to Calciomercato, Liverpool have registered an interest in Chiesa, who could become available in the summer following his club's internal strife, with the Old Lady valuing one of their prized assets at €60m (£53m).

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Pete O'Rourke has provided an insight into the rumours surrounding the 24-year-old's availability and believes that a bid might indeed be forthcoming when the current campaign concludes.

The journalist said: "Maybe in the summer, he might have the likes of Liverpool and other Premier League clubs looking at him and seeing if they can capitalise on Juventus’ financial situation.”

Carroll 2.0

Chiesa has made 70 appearances for Juventus, scoring 19 goals and supplying 16 assists, signing for the distinguished Serie A outfit on an initial two-year loan before the club exercised the option to make the deal permanent for €40m (£34m) last year.

This season, after returning from a lengthy cruciate ligament injury, he has scored one goal and delivered two assists from nine appearances.

While he is clearly a forward-thinking player with an abundance of natural skill - one scout report lauded his direct impact and ability in progressing the play swiftly and with aplomb, while podcaster Roger Bennett called him a "wizard" - there are various elements that Klopp must consider as he determines whether to ramp up interest in the 24-year-old.

With the aforementioned report from Calciomercato stating that Mohamed Salah's Liverpool future is of transfer conversation, a move for Chiesa could prompt a concerning level of unrest for the Egyptian stalwart, who - despite not being at his best this term - has still scored 17 goals and supplied seven assists from 30 appearances.

Should Liverpool cast their attention back to the signing of Andy Carroll, who came to Anfield in 2011 for a lucrative fee of roughly £35m (then a club record) but only netted 11 times from 58 appearances, it could be reminiscent of a player who is known to spend much time shackled to the injury room.

Indeed, the £54k-per-week Chiesa has missed 60 matches since his arrival in Turin ahead of the 2020/21 campaign; and given his prospective high fee - much like Carroll's - Klopp could be set for a disastrous replica at Anfield in a time where hitting the mark with new additions is imperative.

While Chiesa is a forward of quality, as illustrated by the aforementioned plaudits, he perhaps isn't quite where Klopp and co need to place their emphasis in the summer, with the midfield requiring urgent reinvestment and the Italian having struggled with incessant injury woes over the past two years.

Partner that with the potential of upsetting Salah and the echoes of the Carroll transfer 12 years ago, and moving for a player who might command a considerable fee and compound the club's current injury woes might not be the most prudent of decisions.
