Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Marco Asensio this summer and now a new update has emerged on the club's chances of signing the player.

What's the latest?

According to Spanish news outlet SPORT (via Paisley Gates), Liverpool could now sign Real Madrid winger Asensio for a cut-price as the La Liga giants want to cut ties with the player.

As per the report, Jurgen Klopp has now requested the signing of Asensio this summer to strengthen his attacking threat at Anfield and the player is willing to even take a pay cut to join the Reds this summer after demanding a deal worth £100k to £115k-per-week for an extension at Real Madrid.

Los Blancos are now willing to green light a sale to the tune of £26m instead of the previous asking price of £43m.

FSG must act now

If the aforementioned report is true, then FSG must act now to secure the signing the Liverpool manager wants this summer and could now do so at a bargain price.

Asensio who was hailed "magical" by journalist Andrew Gaffney has been a loyal and consistent player for the Champions League winners, scoring 49 goals and delivering 24 assists over 235 appearances with a goal contribution every 167 minutes.

The 26-year-old winger has won three Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles and three FIFA Club World Cups during his time at the Spanish club, so he has definitely built a winning mentality that will be welcomed at Anfield as they continue their pursuit for more trophies next season.

It would be interesting to see how Asensio fits in at Liverpool with the club already acquiring more attacking players this summer with Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho joining the ranks alongside Mohamed Salah who has now signed a three-year extension on his contract.

However, after losing Taki Minamino, Sadio Mane and Divock Origi over the last month there is potentially room for Asensio to become a rotation player for the Merseyside giants especially if they compete well in all competitions like last season, but it would be unlikely that the Spaniard would take a starting spot.

With that being said, if FSG can secure a cut-price deal for Asensio before the Reds return to action in the Premier League next month it could really strengthen their hugely talented forward line even further, which would put Klopp and his team in a great position to compete at the highest level yet again.
