Liverpool have officially announced Darwin Nunez as their new striker and now a reliable source has detailed the club's next steps and priorities in the summer transfer window.

What's the latest?

Liverpool reporter for The Athletic James Pearce has claimed that Liverpool's next priority should be to secure the contract extension of Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah.

In an article for The Athletic, Pearce confirmed that there have been no changes to the club's standstill in negotiations with the Liverpool goal machine and no improved offer has been tabled by the Reds.

However, the journalist does go on to report that the club should be making his new contract their top priority after securing the deal for Nunez.

Supporters will be delighted

There is no doubt that supporters will be absolutely delighted with the signing of Nunez, and if Liverpool can finally strike up a deal with Salah to secure his future too it would be the dream outcome for the Anfield faithful.

The winger who turned 30 years old today has scored 156 goals and delivered 63 assists for the Merseyside club over the last five years, but only has 12 months left on his contract and FSG must act fast to ensure they don't lose their £81m-rated player on a free transfer this time next year.

It has been reported that the Egypt captain wants £400k per week to remain at the club but this would see him on hundreds of thousands more than his Liverpool teammates, something FSG are clearly reluctant to agree to as they are renowned for keeping their salary structure tight and fair to an extent.

To lose Salah next season would be a disaster for the club, especially as Sadio Mane is set to depart in a move to Bayern Munich this summer 12 months ahead of his contract expiration. Losing both of their most prolific goal threats could put the side in a vulnerable position if the club does not prepare for the worst-case scenario.

With that being said, it is no wonder Pearce views Salah's contract as the most important next step for the Merseyside club this summer as securing his future could give Nunez the opportunity to link up with the winger to guarantee Liverpool countless goals in the future.
