Liverpool: James Pearce reveals Neco Williams update

Liverpool are having a huge clear-out this summer with seven players already being shown the exit door at Anfield, and now a new update has emerged confirming the high chances of an eighth.

What’s the latest?

According to Liverpool reporter for The Athletic James Pearce, the Merseyside club has reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest to sell Neco Williams this summer, after initially rejecting a bid.

As per the report, written for The Athletic, Pearce details that Liverpool will earn a fee worth close to £17m for the Welshman, and were happy to make the sale following their signing of Calvin Ramsay last month.

Supporters will be delighted

Although it will be bittersweet for the Anfield faithful to see a player go who has been with the club his entire career since he joined the U9s, supporters will surely be delighted that Williams is finally going to go to a club where he can gain regular first-team football.

The 21-year-old has made 33 appearances for the Merseysiders delivering six assists along the way, but has never managed to break into the first team as a regular starter due to tough competition from Trent Alexander-Arnold who was dubbed “one of the best right-backs in the world” by former Brazil captain Cafu.

Williams has had the opportunity though to prove his worth and talent after he was sent out on loan in the second half of last season to Fulham where he scored two goals and delivered two assists over 14 appearances, playing a key role in the right-back position to win promotion back into the Premier League for the London club.

Not only has the young defender proven he is more than capable of being a valuable asset at club level recently, Williams who has earned 20 caps already with Wales contributed to their first World Cup qualification in 64 years, with a place on the plane to Qatar surely a certain for the player.

Are you happy to sell Neco Williams?

Nevertheless, Julian Ward has secured a fantastic deal to sell Williams with £17m banked if the deal does go through over the next few days and the youngster will now get his opportunity to shine with Forest, so the move seems like it is in the best interests of both the player and the club moving forward.
