Liverpool have been long-term admirers of Jude Bellingham with mounting speculation about their intentions to sign him and now there is a new update on the club's pursuit of the player.

What's the latest?

According to Football Insider, Liverpool could now potentially sign the Borussia Dortmund wonderkid in January.

As per the report, after having preliminary talks with intermediaries about the potential for a deal and Liverpool are now prepared to commit a huge sum to secure his services as early as the new year.

It would be season-changing

There is no doubt that Liverpool are in desperate need of improvements in the squad after a troubling start to their Premier League campaign this season, and signing Bellingham in January would be season-changing for the Reds.

Liverpool are currently 6th in the league table after their worst start in a decade and are currently 15 points adrift from the top spot where Arsenal occupy the position comfortably ahead of the World Cup break.

There is certainly room for improvement in the centre of the pitch with Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set to be out of contract next summer, whilst Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara reach the latter stages of their respective careers.

As a result, the injection of youth and world-class talent would not go a miss for Jurgen Klopp's side and Bellingham has proven time and time again that he could be the next generational talent to wear the famous red shirt at Anfield.

Over 15 league appearances, the £129m ace - who was hailed the "total package" by Pep Guardiola - has scored three goals, registered two assists and created four big chances, as well as averaging 1.1 key passes, 1.4 interceptions, 3.2 tackles and has won 9.2 duels per game.

Not only that, Bellingham ranks in the top 10% of his positional peers across the top five European leagues for dribbles completed, touches, shot-creating actions, assists and non-penalty goals, proving that he is the perfect complete midfielder with both sound defensive and attacking attributes that could improve Liverpool.

With that being said, the powers at Anfield will surely be watching the young talent closely when he participates in the World Cup in Qatar for England and will be readying their offer to Dortmund in hope of snapping up his services before the second half of the season.
