Liverpool have already made three signings this summer but following a midfield injury crisis, the club could be set to add one more player to their squad at Anfield.

What's the latest?

According to reports, via 90min, Liverpool are advancing on their interest in Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.

As per the report, following the injury sustained by Thiago Alcantara the Merseyside giants are considering their options and Brozovic is one of the players the club is interested in.

Imagine him & Fabinho

It has been a hot topic this summer as to whether Liverpool need to add a new midfielder to their team or not, whilst Jurgen Klopp has stayed adamant throughout that the squad does not need reinforcements in the centre of the pitch, but that stance may be changing as a result of the series of unfortunate events unfolding in the team.

As of right now, Curtis Jones is recovering from a calf injury with a timeframe of up to four weeks, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered a serious hamstring injury with no return date confirmed, Naby Keita has been out of the team with ill health and the latest blow, Thiago has suffered a hamstring injury.

The Spanish midfielder limped off the field at Craven Cottage in the first game of the season, with Liverpool reporter for The Athletic James Pearce confirming he will be out for six weeks, so now the midfield is weakened considerably and the signing of Brozovic could be ideal for the team in the season ahead of them.

Without Thiago, Liverpool lose a whole dimension in their midfield threat. The 31-year-old offers sharp passes and an exceptional unrivalled passing range that helps the team achieve their suffocating high press that has led to their competitive dominance, but relying on a player who has already had numerous bouts of injury problems is a big risk for Klopp.

As a result, Brozovic could be the key to keeping the consistency in possession and distribution of the ball alongside Fabinho in the centre of the pitch, with the Inter midfielder displaying last season his capabilities of complementing Klopp's system just like Thiago has for the past two years when fit.

Over 35 Serie A appearances, the £106k-per-week dynamo who was hailed as "uber-talented" by The Athletic's Serie A reporter James Horncastle, had a pass completion rate of 93% which was just better than Thiago's 89.1%.

The Croat further completed 86.1 touches and lost possession just 7.9 times per game. He also averaged 68.1 accurate passes per game and was successful in completing the majority of his dribbles (76%).

Perhaps even more importantly, the Croatia international has only missed nine games over the last two years, unlike Thiago who has missed 44 games for the Reds in the same timeframe.

The midfielder clearly has the attributes and talent to seamlessly fit into the Liverpool system to re-establish a trustworthy midfield partnership with Fabinho this season, and with his injury record looking promising the pair can really form a reliable bond that won't catch the side short over this season and beyond.

With that being said, the signing of Brozovic could be a big addition for Klopp to ensure he can continue to comfortably deploy the effective style of play that helps Liverpool thrive in every competition, and gives Fabinho a midfield partner he can rely on.
