As per the report, the Reds are looking for a like-for-like replacement for Sadio Mane who is heading to Bayern Munich this summer, and they believe Asensio could be the perfect solution.

Klopp needs him

Despite making the record-breaking signing of Darwin Nunez earlier this week, signing a player who can slot into the winger position is essential as it is not just goal contributions that Liverpool will miss when Mane leaves the club, as a result, Klopp needs to sign a player like Asensio.

Mane was not only renowned for his 120 goals scored for the Reds but also for his pressing and link-up play with his team-mates, and although the side already boast a massively talented forward line with Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, the club won't want to be caught short of forwards next season.

Divock Origi has already left the club due to his contract expiration and Taki Minamino is set to follow him out of the doors of Anfield with the player reportedly likely to be sold this summer. When you consider the pair's departure alongside Mane it would make sense for FSG to identify another attacker to bring in.

Asensio who was hailed a "special talent" by former Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton, has scored 12 goals and contributed two assists in 42 appearances this season for Los Blancos in all competitions.

The £34.3m star is no stranger to winning trophies either, something Liverpool will be wanting to continue next season and beyond, with the Real Madrid forward winning three Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles over the last seven years.

With that being said, injecting an experienced winner into the forward line amongst the current talents in the attacking third could be a great piece of business for Liverpool as they will want to capitalise on the trophy winning rhythm they built last season.
