Liverpool have been linked with a move for Moises Caicedo for several months, and a reliable source has given an update on the club's pursuit of the player ahead of the January transfer window.

What's the latest?

According to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, the Reds remain "interested" in signing the Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder in 2023.

The journalist tweeted"Chelsea & Liverpool interested in Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo. No formal talks yet. Brighton don't want to sell mid-season, and are under no pressure to sell - contract until 2025. Joined Brighton – under Graham Potter - for £5m in February 2021. #BHAFC #CFC #LFC"

It'd be a major coup

There is no doubt that Liverpool are in desperate need of reinforcements in the centre of the pitch, with a number of midfielders set to move on from Anfield in 2023.

As it stands, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner will all be out of contract at the end of the season, so there is certainly an opportunity for a rebuild in that part of the team.

Liverpool are already preparing a lucrative deal for Borussia Dortmund and England star Jude Bellingham, so the pursuit of Caicedo could be the perfect chance to add further youthful talent to the squad.

The £85m-valued ace has become one of the hottest prospects in the Premier League after excelling in midfield at the Amex Stadium over the last 12 months, and this season he has continued to tempt elite clubs into making an offer due to his outstanding output.

In 14 appearances for Brighton, Caicedo has scored one goal, tallied an 87% pass completion rate and created one big chance, averaging 1.1 key passes, 1.4 interceptions, 3.1 tackles and six duels won per game.

Furthermore, the 21-year-old has been attracting high praise for his performances for Brighton, with journalist Tim Vickery hailing him in an analysis of his style of play by saying: “Caicedo is a terrific player... He’s a box-to-box midfielder, a terrific athlete who is cool in possession. He’s not a wizard, not a glamorous player but he’s got so much to offer.”

With that being said, recruiting Caicedo would be a major coup for Liverpool as the powers at Anfield attempt to improve performances on the pitch and build a midfield for the future.
