Trusted transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has stated that he expects Liverpool to try and sign a new midfielder in the next few days.

What's the word?

It's no secret that the Reds have been way off their usual pace this season and their recent loss away at Brighton has seen them sink to ninth in the Premier League.

It's also no secret that the club's midfielder is widely perceived to be their big weak spot with the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho now potentially 'past it'.

The good news for Liverpool fans, however, is that journalist Romano believes the club will soon try and make a move for a new option in the middle of the park.

When speaking on his YouTube channel, the transfer insider explained (20:51): “ Anything for Liverpool? I expect them to try for a new midfielder in the next days."

Time to act?

Jude Bellingham seems to be the big name linked with a move to Liverpool but that deal looks more likely to happen in the summer  as Borussia Dortmund don't want to sell in January

And so if that rules out a move for the Englishman any time soon, perhaps the club will chase some alternative targets over the next week or so.

Another player to be linked with Liverpool is Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo who could be a more realistic option as he would supposedly 'jump at the chance' to join Jurgen Klopp's side.

Whoever they do end up chasing, it's pretty clear some fresh options are needed in the middle of the park for the Reds and so the sooner a deal can be done the better.
