Liverpool have set their sights in the direction of Monaco’s defensive midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.
That is according to the latest reports from football correspondent Dominic King who claims that Liverpool target Aurelien Tchouameni is “a player they are looking at.”
Though it will not be easy, with King adding: “But other clubs in frame, too, most notably Real Madrid, who are favourites.”
He then said: “Liverpool, however, most definitely looking for a midfielder with his qualities.”
Romano’s reply: “And soon you’ll be there,” after the young prodigy spoke of watching Manchester City v Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
The first perspective of this tweet would see Real Madrid fans delighted.
Though, the second way will please the Anfield faithful and could be seen as “you’ll soon be there” – in the latter stages of the Champions League, just like Liverpool have been over the last few seasons, with Romano’s claim deliberately broad.
Although the 22-year-old is capable as a central midfielder, his attacking metrics, despite his average of two shots per 90, confirm he is playing in his strongest position as a defensive midfielder. That said, there are clearly more strings to his bow, something his rather comedic nickname of “the octopus” portrays.
In Klopp’s side, the £36m-rated gem would offer further depth and allow for a rotation option in place of Thiago, Fabinho and Henderson who are all ageing. Tchouameni, on the other hand, is very much one for the future and someone that Liverpool can build their squad around.
The Reds boss will have a big understanding of his squad depth, with the Reds chasing an unprecedented quadruple this year.
Latest reports suggest that the Anfield side’s biggest threat is Real, though another Champions League trophy would surely win the Frenchman over.
