Liverpool have been linked with a move for Sofyan Amrabat and now a new update has emerged from a reliable source on the club's pursuit of the player.

What's the latest?

According to journalist Santi Aouna, Jurgen Klopp has already met with Amrabat's entourage ahead of the World Cup and now Liverpool have agreed to hold more talks with the player's agent.

Aouna tweeted:

"Info: Sofyan Amrabat's entourage met Jürgen Klopp before the World Cup.

"Liverpool have agreed to talk to their agent again after the World Cup.

"Amrabat does not hide his desire to discover the Premier League."

Klopp needs him badly

It is no secret that Jurgen Klopp badly needs reinforcements in midfield over the coming months with many of the current midfielders in the squad either coming to the end of their contracts or in the latter stages of their career.

Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner are all entering the last six months of their contract whilst Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are both well into their 30s.

It is clear that the Liverpool manager is now keen to add some younger players that also possess the experience in the centre of the pitch needed to make an instant impact on the team.

As a result, the signing of Amrabat - who was hailed a "monster" by Liverpool ECHO journalist Charlotte Coates - could be exactly what the Reds need in the heart of the team.

Over 13 Serie A appearances, the 26-year-old midfielder has tallied up a 91% pass completion rate and successfully completed 56% of his dribbles, as well as averaging 1.2 tackles, 53.5 touches and 2.8 duels won per game.

Not only that, the £30m-valued maestro has been a standout performer at the World Cup in Qatar for Morocco playing an integral role in his nation's progression to the quarter finals of the prestigious international tournament, knocking out Spain earlier this week.

Over four appearances, Amrabat has won 52% of his duels combined and tallied up an 87% pass completion rate, as well as averaging 1.5 interceptions, 2.5 tackles and 1.5 clearances per game.

Former Premier League midfielder Joe Cole lavished praise on the talented midfielder hailing him "excellent" for his industrious performance against the Spaniards:

"He’s been excellent, he’s sort of patrolling the middle of the pitch, he’s not allowing Gavi and Pedri to get into any type of dangerous position, he’s got great defensive instincts. Tonight, he’s been excellent off the ball."

"He’s been crucial. What he’s done is he’s not allowed [Dani] Olmo and Ferran [Torres] to rotate and get in [on goal]. This [clearance off the line] is the best part of it. Talk about not giving up, and he’s been the epitome of everything good Morocco have done in that half."

With that being said, the signing of Amrabat could be a great piece of business for Liverpool and if they can secure his signature in January it could be a very valuable asset for Klopp in the second half of the season.
