Liverpool have been linked with a move for Sofyan Amrabat and now a reliable source has given an update on an advantage the club has in their pursuit of the player ahead of the January transfer window.

What's the latest?

According to journalist and transfer insider Dean Jones, Liverpool may have a boost in their swoop for the Morocco and Fiorentina midfielder in the new year.

When asked if Liverpool’s relationship with the player's agency, Stellar, could assist them in the transfer of Amrabat, Jones told GIVEMESPORT:

"They’re one of the major agencies in the game and it won’t harm their chances of getting a deal like this done. I think Amrabat himself is in a wonderful situation here."

He's a perfect Milner heir

It is no secret that the Reds will be looking to add reinforcements to their midfield not only due to their inconsistent performances over their campaign so far, but also owing to many midfielders coming to the tail end of their contracts in 2023.

Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner - as it stands - will all be free to speak with foreign clubs to agree to pre-contracts and are currently set to leave Anfield in the summer as free agents.

As a result, the signing of Amrabat could be the perfect opportunity for manager Jurgen Klopp to sign his perfect Milner heir, as the 36-year-old comes to not only the end of his contract but reaches the end of his professional career too.

When comparing the legendary Liverpool utility man with Amrabat over the season so far, the pair share many similarities in their output including shots on target (20% v 20%), short pass completion rate (91.8% v 90.1%), percentage of dribblers tackled (50% v 58.3%), aerial duels won (40% v 43.8%) and blocks (11 v 8), via FBref.

The 26-year-old titan - who was dubbed "outstanding" by former Liverpool player Joe Cole - captured the attention of the world for his contributions to Morocco's record-breaking World Cup campaign last month, which saw his nation become the first-ever African team to progress to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Over seven appearances, Amrabat tallied up an 85% pass completion rate whilst averaging 56.6 touches, 2.3 tackles, 1.4 clearances and 3.4 duels won per game, proving that he is an incredible defensive presence in the centre of the pitch.

Indeed, the Fiorentina titan's signature won't come cheap for the Reds at a reported €45m (£40m), however, it is considerably cheaper than signing Enzo Fernandez who has a release clause of €120m (£105m).

With that being said, if Klopp could secure the services of Amrabat ahead of the second half of the season it would certainly help the team improve their performances in the centre of the pitch and will provide Liverpool with a ready-made Milner replacement at Anfield.
