Liverpool made a tidy profit on youngster Rhian Brewster after accepting an offer of £23.5million from Sheffield United.

The 20-year-old leaves Anfield after arriving from Chelsea's academy on a free move in 2015. Despite impressing in Liverpool's reserve league and making four senior appearances, Brewster never made it to the stage of the Premier League. It appears as though both parties admitted it was time for him to move on.

However, a return to Merseyside could be written in the stars if things fall into place over the next few years.

A potential Liverpool return for Brewster

Not wanting to miss out on a mammoth future sale, Michael Edwards added a 15% sell-on clause into Brewster's contract with the Blades. Currently valued by Transfermarkt at £4.8million, the club's sporting director has already done well to pocket such a high transfer fee. But should Chris Wilder make the England youth international a star, Liverpool could bank even more money through his next potential move.

As well as the attractive sell-on clause, Edwards has also included a buy-back option which will be active for the next three years. After Jurgen Klopp trusted Brewster in the Community Shield penalty shootout against Arsenal, he could have a role waiting for him at the club. Before he can play a part though, he must show his worth in the Premier League.

The London-born forward can certainly locate the back of the net, scoring 11 goals in 22 appearances for Championship side Swansea whilst on loan. He also bagged 20 goals and 14 assists whilst representing Liverpool across various youth leagues (via Transfermarkt).

But with no top tier experience, Klopp has evidently been cautious about relying on him too much.

Brewster's Sheffield comments

The youngster's interview ahead of his first appearance for the Blades could point out that he himself is looking for a way back to Anfield in the near future.

Speaking to the club, Brewster said: "It feels good to be here and I just can't wait to get started to be honest. There were a few teams who came in but right now Sheffield United is the best option for me."

Highlighting that for the time being, Bramall Lane is the ideal place for him could suggest his mind is already ticking over where his next destination could be. After growing through the Liverpool academy and being integrated into the first team, it's not unlikely he has an attachment to Anfield and would like to return some day.
