Liverpool are interested in a deal to bring Moises Caicedo to Anfield in the January transfer window.

That's according to Pete O'Rourke, with the journalist revealing in a recent interview with Football FanCast that Jurgen Klopp is interested in a move for the Brighton & Hove Albion central midfielder this winter - with the South Coast club reported to be demanding a fee in the region of £75m in order to part with the 21-year-old in the current market.

However, the transfer insider went on to suggest that, with Chelsea also reported to be keen on the Ecuador international this month, the Reds may struggle to compete with the financial power of Graham Potter's side.

Regarding Liverpool's interest in Caicedo, O'Rourke said: "I'm sure they would make a move for Caicedo, he is well admired by Jurgen Klopp - he does see him as somebody who could improve Liverpool's midfield. Whether they could compete with Chelsea right now, the way they're spending money, that's debatable."

Klopp must move

While it is undeniable that £75m is an extremely hefty fee to pay for a player who currently has a mere 25 appearances in the Premier League to his name, considering the simply sensational form Caicedo has been in for Brighton this season, the argument that Klopp must do all he can to land the midfielder this winter is an incredibly easy one to make.

Indeed, over his 17 top-flight fixtures in the current campaign, the £16m-rated talent has been a rock in the heart of the Brighton midfield, making an average of 2.9 tackles - the joint seventh-most in the league - 1.4 interceptions, 0.7 clearances and winning 5.7 duels - at a success rate of 57% - per game.

The £15k-per-week wonderkid has also chipped in for his side going forwards, having scored one goal, registered one assist and created two big chances for his teammates, in addition to making an average of 1.1 key passes, playing 2.6 long balls and completing 52.5 total passes - at a success rate of 88% - per match.

These returns have seen the player who Enrico Castro-Montes dubbed both "eye-catching" and a "crown-jewel" average a rather remarkable Sofascore statistical rating of 7.11, not only ranking him as Roberto De Zerbi's fifth-best performer in the league but also as the joint 43rd-best player in the top flight of English football as a whole so far this term.

As such, considering Caicedo's already astonishing returns in what is widely regarded as the most difficult league in the world, coupled with the fact the midfielder is still only 21 years of age, it would indeed appear as if the 28-cap starlet has an exceptionally bright and eye-catching future in the game - leading us to believe that Klopp simply must move for the youngster this month.
