Manchester City's goalkeeping future looks to be secure for some time with 27-year-old Ederson in goal but with young Gavin Bazunu pulling up trees on loan at League One Rochdale, it could be argued that they already have a replacement for the Brazilian waiting in the wings.

The 18-year-old joined Rochdale on loan for the season during the summer and has been a mainstay in their side so far this season, having made 10 appearances in League One, averaging a 6.49 rating (per WhoScored).

The Republic of Ireland U'21 international was particularly impressive in Dale's 0-0 draw against Portsmouth, picking up a superb 8.34 rating for his performance.

The youngster joined City from Shamrock Rovers in 2019, having earned a lot of plaudits for the Airtricity League side during his time in Ireland, with former Cork City man Dave Barry describing him as both "unbelievable" and "exceptional" after he played against Sligo Rovers as a 16-year-old.

Considering Rochdale's style of play has been compared to that of Pep Guardiola's side, in the way in which they play out from the back, you would imagine that a season-long loan with the Greater Manchester club will stand him in good stead for the future with City.

Although he was beaten from the half-way line during Rochdale's clash with Stockport County in the FA Cup on Saturday, his performances this season have already earned him the praise of Dale manager Brian Barry-Murphy.

Perhaps, if he can continue to impress for the League One side, then he could earn another loan move at a higher level next season, and maybe it won't be too long until we start to see him challenging the likes of Ederson, labelled as "brave" by Guardiola back in August, for a first-team spot with the Citizens.
