Manchester City may be blessed with a plethora of wonderkids but it seems as if the Citizens are always looking to add to their ranks, with Chelsea striker Jude Soonsup-Bell the latest teenager to be linked with an Etihad switch.

What's the word?

According to the Evening Standard, City are looking to poach the 18-year-old striker from the Blues in 2023, although he is also attracting interest from a number of clubs across Europe.

Even with a lack of striking options at Stamford Bridge, following the injury suffered by Armando Broja and the loan departure of Romelu Lukaku, it seems unlikely that Soonsup-Bell will be afforded too many opportunities in Graham Potter's side as they chase down a Champions League spot in the second half of the campaign.

The teenage forward boasts just one senior appearance to his name but has crashed in the goals for the U18s, hitting 23 goals in just 25 appearances in that age group.

A perfect Haaland heir?

Soonsup-Bell may look at the likes of Phil Foden, Cole Palmer and Rico Lewis as examples of young players who have a pathway into the first team under Pep Guardiola, whereas the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Marc Guehi and Tino Livramento have all arguably gone on to better things after leaving Stamford Bridge in recent years.

The England U18 international's record with the academy at Chelsea certainly suggests that he knows where the back of the net is and should Erling Haaland ever depart the Citizens, they may need another natural goalscorer as his replacement.

Chelsea U18 coach Ed Brand was full of praise for the Englishman after he scored the winning goal in the U18 Premier League Cup against Fulham last season.

He said:

"Jude is a top goalscorer. He showed great composure to get the ball out of his feet and finish well when he got his chance.

"He is a fantastic player at this level and he should be really proud."

Since leaving Molde in 2019, Haaland has failed to remain at a club longer than two years, so it remains to be seen whether his long-term future lies at the Etihad Stadium or if he wishes to test his undoubted ability in another division, such as LaLiga, where FC Barcelona and Real Madrid would be favourable destinations, you'd imagine.

Therefore, the need to source his successor sooner rather than later could be important business and if Soonsup-Bell isn't going to be offered first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge then director of football Txiki Begiristain should definitely consider signing him in 2023.

With the right coaching and development, there seems no reason why he couldn't potentially emulate, or even replace, Haaland as City's main goalscorer in the future.
