Manchester City could be set to receive a huge boost in the coming weeks, with it suggested that the club are confident that Kevin De Bruyne will sign a new contract with Pep Guardiola’s side.
Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Twitter that City are ‘convinced’ that the Belgian will commit to a new deal with the club and that it is only a matter of time before he signs.
The 29-year-old has established himself as one of, if not the, best player in the world in his position during his time at Manchester City, having been a mainstay in the Citizens’ side since joining from Wolfsburg in 2015.
The attacking-midfielder has now made 253 appearances for City, in which he has contributed an impressive 64 goals and 105 assists.
Although De Bruyne signed a new five-year contract in 2018, meaning he is set to stay until at least 2023, tying him down to another long-term contract would surely see him stay with the Citizens for the rest of his peak years, which is undoubtedly good news for the club.
Last season saw the Belgian international produce arguably the best campaign of his career, as he contributed a superb 13 goals and 20 assists in the Premier League, resulting in an incredible 7.97 average rating.
Although he hasn’t quite reached those levels this season, he has still been in sparkling form for Guardiola’s side, with five goals and 11 assists to his name in the Premier League, whilst his performances in the Champions League have also been at a world-class level.
“He’s an amazing player, it’s just stupid what we are witnessing, and I hope people in football do realise that the boy is just not normal. He is an incredible player, what he shows us is madness!”
Therefore, it will be a huge boost for Guardiola if his star man commits to a new deal in the coming weeks, as his performances in the last six years at City have been nothing short of sensational.
