Manchester City have been linked with Kylian Mbappe in the past and after his move to Real Madrid fell through, they should consider signing him on a pre-contract deal in January.
The French international was heavily targeted by the La Liga side during the recent summer transfer window, with Los Blancos reportedly offering as much as €200m for his services.
However, a deal could not be completed and it now seems likely that Mbappe will leave PSG at the end of this season when his contract expires.
Whilst he may have his heart set on a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, City will be free to approach the 21-year-old on a pre-contract deal in January, with the aim of bringing him to the Etihad next summer and considering his immense talent, it would be crazy for Txiki Begiristain to not even try to sign him.
Since signing for PSG from Monaco in 2017, the young forward has contributed a phenomenal 135 goals and 63 assists in 175 appearances for Les Parisiens, whilst he has also established himself as a regular in Didier Deschamps’ French side, earning 49 caps and scoring 17 goals.
Pep Guardiola’s side were obviously keen on signing a striker during the recent window following Sergio Aguero’s exit but saw moves for Harry Kane and Cristiano Ronaldo fall through, so it seems likely that the Spanish manager will want to add a forward player to his squad as soon as possible.
Mbappe’s incredible pace and finishing ability suggest that he could be a huge success in City’s side, with Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan more than capable of finding him with through balls from midfield, so he would surely prove to be a huge hit in the Premier League.
Former Premier League legend Thierry Henry was full of praise for Mbappe ahead of the European Championships earlier this summer, saying:
“He is the type of guy who can turn a draw into a win, a defeat into a draw and sometimes a defeat into a win straight away. He has that talent.
“To have a player like him is just unbelievable.
“Not only what he can do, but how clever he is on the ball. He uses his brain when he plays and I like that about him.
Therefore, City should definitely look at trying to bring Mbappe in on a pre-contract deal in January as he could be an unbelievable addition to Guardiola’s side, especially on a free transfer.
