According to The Sun, Manchester United are eyeing a summer move for PAOK Thessaloniki winger Christos Tzolis.
Despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side adding two wide options to their wings in the form of Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri, it seems the club legend is still intent on bolstering his attacking reinforcements.
And now, The Sun claim Solskjaer is debating bringing the Greek prospect to Old Trafford in the summer.
The 19-year-old, who is currently valued at £9m via Transfermarkt, is enjoying a prolific campaign in Greece this season, having fired home 16 goals, recording a further nine assists, across 34 appearances in all competitions.
Bringing in Tzolis could stunt the development of a player like Daniel James, who has emerged as a potent threat on the right flank of United’s attack in recent weeks, but sometimes sacrifices have to be made for the greater good, as competition for places and added quality out wide should only be considered a good thing.
While James’ recent resurgence in form should fill Solskjaer with new-found confidence in his ability, given his struggles for consistency since his arrival from Swansea City, the signing of Tzolis could help to propel United to the next level.
The teenager scored three goals and supplied two assists in the Europa League, while he averaged 2.2 shots per game, via WhoScored, boasting a fine eye for finding the back of the net.
In contrast, even James could only manage to score one goal and supply one assist in two appearances in Europe, whilst he is averaging fewer shots per game, as per WhoScored.
Tzolis has earned a decent level of top-level experience in his time playing for PAOK, featuring against the likes of AEK Athens and PSV Eindhoven this season.
Despite his age, he has already earned his first cap for his country, and scored his first international goal in the 2-1 win over Cyprus.
In this regard, swooping for someone of his obvious potential would be a shrewd way of strengthening Solskjaer’s options on the wings, as he could come in and be one of United’s starting wingers for years to come if Ed Woodward brings him to Old Trafford and he is able to hit the ground running.
The statistics show that he should be able to do this, given his incredible return for the Greek outfit, as he has proven he can score goals on a regular basis.
