Manchester United are still interested in signing Leon Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen, reports say.

What's the word?

Reports at the time last summer revealed the Red Devils were reportedly eyeing up a move for the Bayer Leverkusen right winger as a cheaper alternative to Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho, but he ended up staying at the BayArena as a move did not materialise.

And now, football journalist Jonathan Shrager claims Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still considering a swoop for Bailey, but if United want to snap up the 23-year-old they might have to wait until the end of the season.

Get it done

It came as a bit of a surprise that Bailey didn't leave Leverkusen last summer.

The Jamaican winger was one of their best players last season, yet despite being linked with a number of clubs across Europe the Bundesliga outfit managed to keep hold of him.

The Red Devils are sitting comfortably at the top of the Premier League table

While Marcus Rashford is a shoe-in on the left-hand side of the pitch, Solskjaer has struggled to find consistency opposite the 23-year-old.

Mason Greenwood, Daniel James and Juan Mata are the three battling to bag the spot, but their form has been patchy at best.

Bailey would provide competition for the aforementioned trio, and could prove to be a shrewd signing if it comes off.

Per Transfermarkt, the £26m-rated reliable winger has barely missed a beat this season, having made 23 appearances across all competitions, and has nine goals and eight assists to show for his 19 starts, with Peter Bosz's side locked in a title race with Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig at the halfway stage of the season.

The attacking midfielder, who can play on either flank, is currently averaging 2.5 shots and 1.5 key passes per game this season so far, which would rank him in second place behind Bruno Fernandes in the current United squad for those statistics, per WhoScored.

Current Bayer Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz said earlier this season that Bailey "gets better every game."

Despite his age, his experience, pace, and versatility could be a game-changer for Solskjaer's side next season, as he has shown his all-round game is solid and he can create chances for his teammates whilst scoring himself.
