Manchester United picked up their first Europa League win of the campaign with a 2-0 win against Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova.

Jadon Sancho opened the scoring after a fine passing move before Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first goal of the season from the penalty spot after Diego Dalot was fouled.

Erik Ten Hag's side now sit second in the group behind Real Sociedad, who earned a 1-0 win at Old Trafford last week, so it was vital that the Red Devils picked up three points against Sheriff.

One man who impressed in the 2-0 win was summer signing Lisandro Martinez.

The Argentine, who joined from Ten Hag's old side Ajax, was in imperious form alongside Raphael Varane, as the Red Devils picked up their fifth straight win when starting with that partnership.

As per SofaScore, Martinez would earn an impressive 7.3/10 rating for his performance, with only Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho ranked higher.

No player on the pitch would make more clearances (four), complete more passes (87), complete more long passes (six) or have more touches (104) than Martinez, which emphasises the impact he had.

Considering the Argentina international has averaged 43.3 passes, 2.2 long balls and 4.7 clearances per game in the Premier League so far this season, it is clear that he was on the top of his game in Moldova and really helped United to dictate the play.

It is becoming more and more clear why Ten Hag was so desperate to bring the centre-back in this summer, as it is evident how much better on the ball he is than Harry Maguire.

This is emphasised by FBref, as Martinez scores in the 97th percentile for progressive passes, whereas Maguire scores in the 61st.

After a difficult start to life at Old Trafford, the "excellent" Martinez was on top form again on Thursday evening and should make the headlines ahead of Sancho and be recognised as Ten Hag's top performer.
