Manchester United are desperately trying to sign a right winger by the time deadline day draws to a close at midnight tonight…
According to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, the Red Devils are deep in discussions with Watford over a possible move for Ismaila Sarr.
However, Fabrizio Romano revealed the Hornets have rejected their proposal as they are not interested in a loan deal.
Should Manchester United make a late swoop for Ismaila Sarr?
Despite these conflicting reports, one thing is for sure; Man United must do everything in their power to try and sign the in-demand winger before it is too late.
Man United had been strongly linked with a move for Jadon Sancho but have been forced to turn their attentions elsewhere as Borussia Dortmund have refused to sell the England international for anything less than their £108m asking price, which explains why they are now exploring other options.
The Red Devils remain locked in negotiations with Barcelona over Ousmane Dembele while Ed Woodward will be well aware that Liverpool will be hot on his heels.
It’s no secret that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is short of wide options having sanctioned the departure of Andreas Pereira to Lazio, which follows on from Alexis Sanchez’s sale in the summer.
And whilst signing Sancho would surely be the icing on the cake, it sadly seems that he is still so far out of reach, so they will have to consider alternatives.
As far as we are concerned, one name stands out from the rest.
Last season, Sarr played 28 games in the Premier League, scored five goals and supplied four assists, averaged 1.6 shots and 1.7 dribbles per game, whilst showing everyone exactly what he is capable of with the ball at his feet, recording a pass success rate of 81.5% with an average of 17 passes per game, via WhoScored.
The 22-cap Senegal international played a crucial part in Liverpool’s humiliating defeat at Vicarage Road – he scored a double to silence Mo Salah, who could only muster two attempts on goal, while he won four out of seven ground duels and supplied an assist for Troy Deeney as well, as per SofaScore.
Unlike his Barcelona counterpart, Sarr has barely been injured at all, as he last sustained a serious injury all the way back in 2017. He has also been lauded by fellow Senegal international Sadio Mane, who labelled him “rapid” in 2019.
The Evening Standard’s James Robson recently revealed he may be available for as little as £45m, so it is surely a no-brainer.
Whilst Sarr wouldn’t be Solskjaer’s first choice, United are in dire straits at the moment, and he should take anything he can get at such a late stage in the transfer window. The added bonus to this one, with Watford now being in the Championship it means that the Red Devils have until October 16th to try and strike a deal.
