Manchester United's winning run continued with a 3-1 victory over West Ham United in the FA Cup on Wednesday evening, with the Red Devils producing a stunning late comeback to book their place in the quarter-finals.

After a week which saw the Old Trafford outfit edge past Barcelona in the Europa League and see off Newcastle United at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final, it looked as if the recent hectic fixture schedule had finally caught up with Erik ten Hag's side, amid what was a laboured first-half display.

That lacklustre outing was then punished as Said Benrahma curled home in exquisite fashion just prior to the hour mark, with it looking as if would not be the hosts' day as Casemiro then subsequently saw his header ruled out for offside.

An equaliser did eventually come, however, via the head of the unfortunate Nayef Aguerd following Bruno Fernandes' inswinging corner, before teenage sensation Alejandro Garnacho sparked jubilant scenes at the Theatre of Dreams after whipping a fine strike into the far corner.

The home side's progression was then ensured at the death as substitute Fred got in on the act, albeit with it undoubtedly having been Garnacho who was the star attraction, with the 18-year-old winning 11 duels on the night and completing six dribbles, while his 7.5 match rating, as per Sofascore, was only bettered by teammate David De Gea.

The one-time Atletico Madrid youth star was not the only figure to have stolen the show for United on the night, however, with January arrival Wout Weghorst also again proving his worth with a typically relentless and courageous display in the forward line.

How did Weghorst play against West Ham?

While the towering Dutchman was again unable to get himself on the scoresheet - notably firing high and wide in the second half following a threaded, incisive pass from Casemiro - the 30-year-old certainly made his mark in the final third, having produced five key passes in total, the most of any player for either side.

That creative impact saw the Netherlands international tee up the aforementioned Fred for the Brazilian's late strike after impressively hounding the visiting defence, with the on-loan Burnley ace having been something of a "pest" in his central berth, as per The Athletic's Carl Anka, as a result of his "insane" work rate - in the words of one source.

The 6 foot 6 colossus arguably had a hand in all three goals having nearly got his head on the eventual Aguerd own goal as well as seeing his shot blocked in the build-up to Garnacho's stunner, with such crucial interventions showcasing that the imposing marksman does have a role to play moving forward.

That "brilliant" showing - as per journalist Liam Canning - ultimately saw Weghorst record an impressive 7.4 match rating, with the former Besiktas man building on what was arguably his "best performance in a Manchester United shirt" in the weekend win over the Magpies, according to journalist Josh Bunting.

The temporary acquisition may still need to get in amongst the goals if he is to truly be deemed as a success in the coming months, although on recent evidence the 19-cap menace has certainly not been the busted flush that many were expecting.
