Manchester United: Benjamin Sesko is on their list of targets

What’s the word?

The update concerns Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko, with Romano speaking to GIVEMESPORT about the player and Manchester United’s interest, saying:

“He’s one of the targets, one of the names they have on the list. He’s a player really appreciated by Manchester United, they had conversations with these agents.”

According to i, it will cost United £45m in order to begin talks with the player and this is something that Erik ten Hag will be pursuing, especially with the poor depth of attacking options at Old Trafford.

United would need to act fast, however, with recent reports suggesting RB Leipzig are close to signing him for the summer of 2023.

He could be their own Haaland

It’s no secret that Manchester United need quality in their front three in order to break the Manchester City-Liverpool recent duopoly of the Premier League.

A new striker remains of paramount importance to Ten Hag as he aims to get the supporters behind him. A disappointing defeat to Brighton on the opening day of the league season might not sway the fans just yet, but if there isn’t an improvement, it might be a short stay at Old Trafford for the Dutchman.

Sesko scored 11 goals and registered seven assists in all competitions last season in what was arguably his breakthrough campaign, and this appears to have enticed United into potential making a move.

Sky Sport Austria have reported that Sesko would rather stay at his current club for another season, which shows great maturity.

With rivals Man City having lured Erling Haaland to the Premier League, a move that has paid dividends immediately thanks to his two goals against West Ham, the recent gap between the pulling power of the two clubs continues to grow.

That said, United could land their own version of the City forward, with journalist Tom Maston previously dubbing the 19-year-old a “mini Haaland”.

Should Man United sign Sesko?

Sesko has started off in a similar mould to his Norwegian compatriot, who like Haaland, is now learning his trade at Salzburg. The Slovenian could well follow in his footsteps with his impressive nature in front of goal and hulking frame of 6 foot 4 sparking huge comparisons between the two impressive young strikers.

If he does go on to become anywhere near as good as Man City’s new golden boy, then Ten Hag will consider £45m extremely well spent.
