Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes is reportedly in talks to extend his contract at the club after an outstanding 18 months on English shores.

What's the story?

The 27-year-old arrived from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 and established himself as a key player for the Red Devils almost immediately.

And now, well-known journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the Portugal international's future, claiming he's set to be rewarded for his impressive exploits with the offer of a new deal.

He tweeted: "Precisely 600 days ago, Manchester United signed Bruno Fernandes for €63m after 7 months negotiations with Sporting. He’s a key player - on and off the pitch. #MUFC …and negotiations underway for 2 months to extend his contract as next priority. Work in progress. #Bruno"

Fans will be absolutely delighted

News that Fernandes has entered negotiations to extend his stay at Old Trafford will have the club's supporters feeling absolutely delighted.

The attack-minded maestro has played a pivotal part in United's progress since his arrival, bagging 44 goals and providing 25 assists in just 84 appearances for the Red Devils.

His stunning strike in the 4-1 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday was his fourth goal in as many games this season, highlighting his importance to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

However, Fernandes is yet to secure a piece of silverware for his new side despite his fabulous performances on the pitch, something he will be keen to put right this season.

The arrival of several high-profile stars over the summer has added significant strength to the 20-time English champions, although tying their Portuguese magnifico down to fresh terms could be just as crucial to their future fortunes.

Fernandes' current contract doesn't expire until the summer of 2025, but his new deal will likely see his reported £180,000-per-week wages substantially increased and he deserves to be rewarded for his amazing contributions.
