Manchester United have seriously ramped up their bid to replace Ralf Rangnick in the summer with a plethora of updates emerging in their hunt for a new manager at Old Trafford.

What's the word?

Even if Rangnick secures the Red Devils a top-four spot in May, it's thought that the German manager will step aside and take up a consultancy role behind the scenes at Man United.

As a result, that leaves the door open for a new head coach to step in and lead the team from the 2022/23 campaign.

Erik ten Hag has long been on United's shortlist, as has former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino.

And commenting over the last few days, Sky reporter Melissa Reddy revealed it would likely come down to those two in the summer.

Speaking live on air, she said: "The men they are doing due diligence on, Mauricio Pochettino, [Erik] ten Hag, Julen Lopetegui and Luis Enrique. Now two of those names will stand out more than most, Pochettino and ten Hag, they are the favourites.

“We are told by senior sources that it would be a surprise if it didn’t come down to one of those two potentials to be the next man in charge at Old Trafford."

Fans will love Ten Hag or Pochettino

It's safe to say that Rangnick's appointment in the northwest was a little uninspiring. Although he is the forefather of the gegenpress, they were bringing in somebody who was no longer actually a manager, taking up a role behind the scenes at Lokomotiv Moscow.

Thus, the idea of someone like Ten Hag or Pochettino replacing him should fill fans with complete and utter joy.

After all, these are two of the most impressive coaches in Europe right now, with the Argentine's experience and success in English football a particular plus point.

Although he didn't win a single trophy with Spurs, he reinvigorated the club as he made them Champions League regulars and took them all the way to the final when they lost to Liverpool.

Furthermore, he is a progressive coach who has shown in the past just how capable he is of developing young players and in particular, homegrown talent.

As for ten Hag, he also has previous in Europe's elite competition with Pochettino's Tottenham side knocking them out of the Champions League after a surprising but euphoric run to the semi-finals.

He has won numerous domestic honours and like the man he could rival for the job, develops players incredibly well.

Just look at Dusan Tadic for instance, a player who was rather mediocre in the Premier League but has since scored 69 goals and registered 87 assists under the Dutchman's guidance.

Another player to benefit from his tutelage is Donny van de Beek who has rather gone off the boil since being sold by ten Hag to United.

With that in mind, he and Pochettino are surely the ideal candidates, leaving supporters incredibly pleased with the groundwork being done behind the scenes.
