Manchester United have had a rollercoaster of a season with their long term manager, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, sacked after three years in November, and ongoing poor performances plaguing their campaign.
The side crashed out of both domestic competitions, are struggling for a top-four finish and only have the Champions League left to hope for. However, now there could be another big hit to the club.
Popular transfer insider, Fabrizio Romano, tweeted this morning that Marcus Rashford is considering his future at his boyhood club, Manchester United.
Romano wrote to his 7 million followers:
“Marcus Rashford is considering his future. He’s concerned about his lack of game time, source close to Man Utd forward tell me – he’s always been professional but he wants clarity. #MUFC”
“His current Manchester United deal runs out in June 2023.”
There is no doubt fans will be gutted to see that one of their own is considering a change of direction in his career after coming through the academy and becoming one of the standout players for the club, on and off the pitch.
He is a natural goal scorer and his charity off the pitch has become a symbol for all young footballers throughout the country to aspire to.
However, there are clearly a number of issues at Old Trafford that need to be ironed out, and with a new manager coming in the summer, it may be the perfect time for the 24-year-old to part ways and find a new challenge somewhere he can be guaranteed first-team football without the pressures that come with being at United right now.
It is no surprise that the English forward feels like he has no choice but to leave to get game time, after the team selection came out ahead of the Manchester Derby, with Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo missing from the side it seemed the perfect chance for Rashford to seize the opportunity to prove his worth against the league Champions.
Alas, Rangnick decided to snub the selection, playing Bruno Fernandes in the 9 role alongside Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga.
The fact that a midfielder was being given the start in the striker role completely out of position, will have spoken volumes to Rashford, who has clearly had enough as the report from Romano on his future follows less than 24 hours later.
Manchester United now find themselves in a vulnerable position after their heavy defeat to their neighbours yesterday, with Arsenal leap-frogging them into the top four position, with three games in hand over the Red Devils. As a result, Rangnick could be in big trouble if he can’t pull off Champions League qualification for the club next season.
