Having sustained an injury on international duty, Manchester United have been dealt a huge blow to Anthony Martial’s fitness with suggestions that he could be out until the end of the season.

Red Devils’ boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed the news ahead of their 2-1 win against Brighton and Hove Albion, the Norwegian saying that his apparent injury is a “bad one”.

The Frenchman’s absence is surely set to be a devastating blow for Solskjaer and the Red Devils as they continue challenging on two fronts in 2020/21.

Whilst having not quite been as clinical as in prior seasons this time around, Martial has still contributed greatly.

The £45m-rated forward has seven goals and five assists in all competitions so far, with just Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes having bettered his contributions in the entire Manchester United squad.

It was only just over a month ago that Solskjaer was hailing Martial as “absolutely superb” following the 2-0 win Manchester derby victory at the Etihad Stadium.

He will of course be a big miss for the Red Devils considering his output but that does not even take into account the club’s further injury worries.

Edinson Cavani only made his return to the starting lineup in Sunday evening’s victory against Brighton, whilst Marcus Rashford, who netted the equaliser for the hosts, was a doubt coming into the game.

With Martial now out for the rest of the season, this makes the team look very light in attacking areas, especially considering the amount of football that they have yet to play.

The Red Devils still have eight Premier League games in which to navigate, as well as the UEFA Europa League, where they could be set to play a further five matches should they hold aspirations of winning the competition.

Martial then will be a disappointing loss for the remainder of the campaign with his devastating and potentially season-ending injury.
