Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is the most wanted man in Manchester as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Pep Guardiola face uncertain futures...
What's the word?
According to The Daily Mirror, Manchester United are eyeing Pochettino as Solskjaer's side have endured a dreadful start to the season. United have lost to both Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
But the Red Devils face stiff competition from their arch-rivals as City are also considering Pochettino as a candidate to replace Guardiola, who has shown no signs of signing a new deal, despite the fact his contract will run out in seven months.
And Pochettino apparently wants to replace Solskjaer at Old Trafford, reports say. The 48-year-old has been out of a job in football for almost a year since leaving Spurs last November.
Strike while the iron is hot!
Solskjaer's side have suffered a poor start to the campaign which has seen back-to-back home defeats by Palace and Spurs. The Red Devils were thrashed by Jose Mourinho's side in a result that has left his future at the club in doubt. And Bruno Fernandes even had a fracas with the United boss at half-time if recent reports are to be believed.
Following a third-place finish in the top flight last term, Solskjaer will be given time to turn the results around, having secured a spot in the Champions League in the process. But Ed Woodward must strike while the iron is hot and hire Pochettino on the spot before it is too late.
Whilst Solskjaer has been a solid stop-gap, Pochettino can take United to the next level. In fact, it's almost hard to argue that the Argentine isn't the right man for the job. Although his lack of trophies may have left some questioning his credentials, his attractive attacking brand of football at both Spurs and Southampton suggests that he is the perfect replacement.
He turned the Saints into a genuine Premier League side, then went to Spurs and took them a step further by turning them into Champions League finalists. The last time United reached a Champions League final was under Sir Alex Ferguson.
And Alan Brazil believes that the club legend's luck has run out. He told talkSPORT that Pochettino would be a "perfect" fit for the Red Devils whilst former Ireland international Kevin Doyle slammed Solskjaer's "embarrassing" excuses after the Palace loss.
United overlooked Pochettino last time they were looking for a new manager. Woodward will not want to make the same mistake again, as he will be well aware he may never get another chance.
