Man Utd could replace Pogba with Marseille star Boubacar Kamara

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Marseille star Boubacar Kamara amid a potential transfer swoop for the midfielder.

That’s according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who claims the 22-year-old has opted to leave as a free agent at the end of the season, and that “although it is unclear whether a destination will be confirmed in the coming weeks or further down the line, the decision to take on a new challenge outside of France is believed to have been made.”

It’s added that along with the likes of Premier League rivals West Ham, Newcastle and Wolves, Ralf Rangnick’s United are also across the situation surrounding Kamara as they consider him as a potential option to bolster their midfield.

He could replace Pogba

With Paul Pogba’s future at Manchester United never staying out of the limelight – Rangnick recently admitted that it’s not his job to convince him to stay at Old Trafford – the club have to be doing everything they can to ensure they have somebody lined up to replace him if he does leave.

Pogba’s contract comes to an end in the summer, much like Kamara, and waving goodbye to the former Juventus man could see United make a very shrewd swoop in the Marseille star.

While he’s tremendously versatile, Kamara could be used by Rangnick as the midfield anchorman, and it’s safe to say he’s earned rave reviews for his ability and potential, with his former Marseille teammate Rolando waxing lyrical about him.

He said: “This kid is a phenomenon. When he started training with us, he was 15 years old. And from day one, I said, no, but this little one is going to be a great player.

“He’s the kind of central defender I like. He is full of qualities and, above all, he works, he listens. It is out of the ordinary.”

Should Man Utd sign Kamara?

The defensive instincts he will have picked up from being a centre-back could bode well for being a holding midfielder at St James’ Park, and his stats last season appear to point in that direction too.

As per Whoscored, he averaged a whopping 2.5 tackles per game in Ligue 1 last season, but also boasted one dribble per match and averaged 58 passes per game at an accuracy of 86.7% – to put that into context, only Fred in the entire Manchester United squad managed more tackles and made more passes.

The £25.2m-rated dynamo could well be the perfect replacement for Pogba.

Meanwhile, Man Utd must move for this Serie A midfielder…
