Manchester United have been linked with a move for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot recently but if he arrived at Old Trafford this summer, it could be an unfortunate repeat of the deal that saw the Red Devils re-sign Paul Pogba.

Calcio Mercato claimed last week that both Manchester United and Chelsea are interested in signing the France international, with ten Hag keen on adding to his midfield options after the departures of Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic.

The 27-year-old has plenty of pedigree, having won various titles and cups with Juventus and PSG but his attitude has regularly been questioned throughout his career.

During his time in Paris, sporting director Antero Henrique was heavily critical of the midfielder as he tried to force a move away, saying:

"I find his attitude and lack of professionalism towards the club, his teammates and supporters unacceptable."

After he was left out of France's World Cup squad in 2018, Rabiot refused to join the standby list and wrote a letter to the French FA to criticise Didier Deschamps' decision.

Considering the problems United have had in recent seasons within the dressing room, it would surely be unwise to add another character such as Rabiot into the mix.

Like Pogba, there is no doubting Rabiot's talent, but given that he currently earns £175k-per-week at Juventus, he could prove to be another costly mistake for the Glazers.

The United academy graduate made the move back to Old Trafford from Juventus in an £89m-deal in 2016 but he was never able to consistently produce the form that he shows for his country.

In his six years with the club, the midfielder would feature 233 times, in which he contributed 39 goals and 51 assists, with injury problems regularly affecting his playing time.

His attitude was also questioned on a number of occasions by former professionals, and his exit on a free transfer this summer undoubtedly leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.

While ten Hag needs to strengthen United's midfield this summer, he should look elsewhere for new signings, as Rabiot feels like another disaster waiting to happen for the Red Devils.
