Manchester United are now holding positive talks with their young prospect Alejandro Garnacho over a new deal to keep him at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are seemingly looking to lock down the future of the Argentine following what has been an impressive start to the campaign so far for the 18-year-old.
Garnacho has been offered opportunities by Erik ten Hag since his arrival at Old Trafford and the winger has certainly grasped those opportunities with both hands.
However, there have been some setbacks over a potential new deal with reports suggesting the winger’s camp had rejected a recent offer from United.
But with the Argentine enjoying some relative success at the Theatre of Dreams, Fabrizio Romano has suggested positive talks are ongoing with the expectation he will sign a new deal:
“On Alejandro Garnacho, I always told you also a few days ago that Man United were optimistic; now they’re getting closer. The agreement is really close between Man United and Alejandro Garnacho.
“They are discussing the details of the proposal. So it’s about the salary and length of the contract. Some things to clarify, but the discussion is very positive between Man United and Garnacho, with the expectation of the club is to have Garnacho as part of the future plans.”
These comments from Romano will certainly provide United fans with a lot of relief given the recent suggestions that he had turned down their offer of £20k per week.
And this comes amid some reports claiming the 18-year-old has already caught the attention of Real Madrid following his bright start to the campaign.
It is no surprise the likes of Los Blancos are already sniffing around the youngster given some of the big games in which he has provided a huge influence this season.
You only have to look at the effect he had on the recent Manchester derby after he came off the bench and provided Marcus Rashford with the assist for the winning goal.
And looking back to their Europa League campaign, the Argentine scored the winning goal against Real Sociedad as United chased the top spot in the group.
It is apparent he is impressing at Old Trafford with some of the old guard, like Paul Scholes, chiming in on his recent success under Ten Hag:
“He’s been good every time I’ve seen him. I think he’s been a real threat. I thought he should have come on before Antony, who does have his strengths, don’t get me wrong,” Scholes said after the Manchester derby win.
“But his lad [Garnacho] is direct, he doesn’t care, there’s no fear in a young player. He wants to score goals and he wants to make goals and he’s more than capable of doing it.”
Although it must be flattering to hear the likes of Juventus and Madrid are monitoring your progress, it does feel as if Old Trafford is the right place for Garnacho to be playing football.
Ten Hag has a long list of youth players he has brought through the ranks during his time at Ajax and from what we have seen this season, there is no reason Garnacho cannot be his first success story at United.
