There remains hope that Manchester United could sign free agent Christian Eriksen.

What’s the word?

That’s according to The Guardian, who claim that the midfielder had previously signalled his intent to remain in London following his six-month stint at Brentford.

The Denmark international has plenty of offers, and as such has a big decision to make. He is still weighing up his options, and that means that United are still in the race.

They still hope to sign the midfielder, despite rumours of a move for Frenkie de Jong as well.

He could be better than Pogba

With Paul Pogba finally leaving the club on a free after a tumultuous six years, if Erik ten Hag could tempt Eriksen to Old Trafford, he could become everything that the France international was meant to be.

In his six months at Brentford, he was lauded for his classy return to football following the tragedy that struck him at Euro 2020.

His manager Thomas Frank was one such fan, who labelled the midfielder “unbelievable”.

He went on to note his importance to how his side plays: “Christian is a top player, an unbelievable character and he brings quality and calmness to the team. You can give it to Christian and he’ll always find a solution.”

It is, therefore, no surprise to see the 115-cap pass-paster boast a 7.54 average SofaScore rating, notching up five goal contributions in just 11 games.

Pogba on the other hand managed ten goal contributions in 20 games, however, four of those did come in the first game of the season.

When the 29-year-old first re-signed to United for a then-world record fee, fans expected someone who would dominate games and dictate the tempo, adding flair and creativity that the Old Trafford midfield had lacked.

In Eriksen, they would be guaranteed this. He ranks in the 93rd percentile for progressive passes per 90, and in the 99th percentile for assists and shot-creating actions per 90 when ranked against other midfielders. He is a midfield mastermind, and exactly what the Red Devils have been missing.

He has stunned and delighted supporters upon his return and all praise he has received has been more than earned. Ten Hag should throw everything to convince this maestro to join his revolution, and become everything Pogba could not.
