Manchester United have been linked with a move to sign Hoffenheim left-back David Raum this summer.

What's the news?

In a recent Twitter post from Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, he had this to say on the matter.

"Raum: MUFC wants him! Talks about the left defender have taken place. Talks ongoing & good but still a long way to go. Transfer probably around €30-35m. It is said that this transfer "can happen". But: BVB could become hot if they sell [Nico] Schulz or [Raphael] Guerreiro."

After working his way through Greuther Furth's youth ranks and making 99 senior appearances for them in which he scored six goals and provided 23 assists, the left-back joined Hoffenheim on a free transfer last summer.

Imagine him and Ronaldo

Throughout his debut season at the Bundesliga club, the 24-year-old found the net three times and supplied 13 assists in 32 league outings, highlighting the attacking talent he has.

It also backs up why the defender, who could cost the Old Trafford outfit around £30m according to Plettenberg, was labelled as an "assist machine" by WhoScored's Ben McAleer on Twitter.

To further clarify how impressive he was last season in an attacking sense, no other player at Hoffenheim managed to make as many crosses (182), successful dribbles (31) or shot-creating actions (128) as he did.

From a defensive point of view, only one other player at the club managed to end the season with a higher combined total of tackles and interceptions than Raum (109).

Taking into account how capable the Germany international is when it comes to setting up goals and being an attacking threat, having him in the side could be incredibly beneficial for current United attacker Cristiano Ronaldo.

With 18 goals to his name throughout United's latest Premier League campaign, the veteran has shown that he is clearly still a very dangerous figure at the top of the pitch.

Therefore, having a player like Raum providing him with goal-scoring opportunities could be a match made in heaven for United and Erik ten Hag.

With all of that in mind, the best thing the Red Devils could do now would be to continue their reported talks with Hoffenheim and make sure they seal a deal that would see him make the move to Old Trafford this summer.
