BBC pundit Robbie Savage has claimed Manchester United should be targeting Harry Kane as their 'number one target' in the summer transfer market.

What's the word?

Tottenham Hotspur suffered humiliation in the north London derby on Sunday as they were easily beaten 2-0 in the north London derby at their own stadium.

The loss leaves Antonio Conte's Spurs fifth in the Premier League table – 14 points behind their rivals in first and five short of the Red Devils in fourth.

Defeats like that will be a bit pill to swallow for Kane as his side are now almost certainly out of any title race – if they ever were in one – and so the Englishman's pursuit of a first major trophy suffers another setback.

While speaking about the striker on BBC Radio Show 606, Savage said United should look to sign the striker instead as he'd have a better chance of winning a trophy under Erik ten Hag.

He explained: "I think Harry Kane, I've said of numerous years now, Manchester United have got a far better chance under Ten Hag than Spurs will have of ever winning a trophy.

"And I just think it can't, I don't think it would happen in this window. But in the summer, for me, that would be my number one target. Harry Kane to Manchester United."

Glory hunter?

To be fair to Savage, United certainly seem to be moving in the right direction under their new manager. Indeed, Ten Hag's men claimed a crucial derby win over Manchester City on the weekend.

That result means they have now gone 19 games in all competitions without losing a competitive game. Such form has even left some suggesting the Red Devils could be dark horses in this year's title race.

Seeing as Kane, who once had a valuation of £250m, is yet to win a trophy in his career, and United looked to be on an upward trajectory, it's not hard to see why the Englishman could be keen on a move in the near future.

What's more, United's loan purchase of Wout Weghorst this winter suggests they are keen on having a main striker up top as part of their plans and could be in the market for a new option in the summer.
