Manchester United have not made any official moves in the winter transfer window so far, but have been linked to a number of players since they appointed the new manager, Ralf Rangnick.

He has taken on the expectation to improve the struggling Manchester United side this season, and the German coach could be eyeing up his first upgrade.

What's the word?

According to MailOnline, Manchester United are interested in signing young Brighton right back, Tariq Lamptey.

The report suggests that the Manchester club have valued the player at £30m, but this is £10m short of what Brighton are interested in, who are only willing to listen to bids around £40m.

MailOnline also report that Rangnick is looking for an upgrade on Aaron Wan Bissaka and Diogo Dalot, with United identifying that player to be Lamptey, and the signing could be completed in January.

Forget AWB

Wan Bissaka and Dalot have clearly failed to impress Rangnick as he continues to consistently rotate the two, with neither making the positive impact to secure the starting position as right back, and fans will be buzzing at the prospect of signing a more consistent player in the position.

Red Devils fans have taken to social media to discuss the potential upgrade from their current centre back by signing the 21-year-old defender.

"If there is any truth that Brighton would accept £40m for Lamptey, go and get him. Sell AWB in the summer and have the attacking full-back we need! Him and Dalot both young and exciting. We don’t need a RB that looks like bambi on the ball!"

Indeed, when you look at the stats, it's clear to see how big an upgrade the Seagulls defender would be.

According to Squawka, when you compare Wan Bissaka to Lamptey this season so far per 90 minutes, the Brighton defender has won more ground duels, has more ball recoveries and made more interceptions than his Manchester United counterpart.

That's as well as offering a greater deal offensively with more successful crosses, a better accuracy from balls into the area and more chances created for his team.

Rangnick will need to make a decision fast on the £16.2m-rated star who was hailed a "dream" by his current manager, Graham Potter, with other clubs interested in signing the youngster, including top four rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
