Manchester United have potentially been handed a big boost in the search for a new centre-back this summer.
According to reports from Marca, Real Madrid could be willing to sell Raphael Varane this summer for €70m (£60.6m) as they look to overhaul their squad heading into 2021/22. The Frenchman is reportedly seen as one of Los Blancos most sellable assets considering that his contract is continuing to tick down at the Bernabeu.
Having been linked with him in the past, the Red Devils must take advantage of that new-found availability and bring Varane to Old Trafford.
It goes without saying that the current Los Blancos defender would bring considerable pedigree to the Red Devils backline. In his time with Real Madrid, Varane has made 355 appearances for the club in all competitions, playing a key role in four Champions League successes, three La Liga title triumphs as well as a solitary Copa del Rey victory.

That is not to forget his contributions for France, the 73-cap defender playing every minute of Les Bleus’ glorious 2018 World Cup campaign in Russia.
His form for both his club and country has drawn glowing praise from some of his teammates. Eden Hazard has even suggested that, from a defensive standpoint Varane is “one of the best of all time”.
His potential arrival at Old Trafford would certainly be a strong sign of intent from the Red Devils and could well take them to the next level.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly going to be on the lookout for a centre-back this summer, and most would be hard pushed to find a better option than Varane.
With Real Madrid apparently looking to sell, the Red Devils could take a considerable step closer to bringing the 27-year-old to Old Trafford.
