Manchester United are reportedly set to make a bid to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer.

What's the news?

According to a recent report from Quotidiano (via Sport Witness) United will look to make another bid to sign the Serbian this summer after their first offer did not meet the Italian club's requirements.

Lazio signed the 27-year-old back in August 2015 from Belgian side KFC Genk.

United's next Bruno Fernandes

Since arriving in Italy, the midfielder has gone on to make a total of 294 appearances for Lazio across all competitions, scoring 58 goals and providing 51 assists along the way.

With 37 appearances to his name in Serie A this season, Milinkovic-Savic has found the net 11 times and supplied 11 assists in the process.

This shows how much of a creative and attacking threat the £63m-rated talent can be.

Taking into account how United scored fewer league goals than the likes of West Ham United, Arsenal and Leicester City this season, having a player like the Lazio star could be just what they need to make them a much deadlier attacking side.

Labelled as a "complete" midfielder by Sky Sports journalist Anton Toloui, Milinkovic-Savic could be United's next version of Bruno Fernandes.

While Fernandes racked up more shot-creating actions in the Premier League this season than the Lazio ace in Serie A, Milinkovic-Savic ended his campaign with more goal-creating actions than the United star.

With over 400 more passes made than the Portugal international, the Serbian has a higher percentage of successful passes too.

The Serbia international also beats the 27-year-old Old Trafford gem for successful dribbles this season.

From a defensive point of view, Fernandes has more tackles to his name but the reported United transfer target trumps him on the number of blocks, interceptions and clearances.

Taking all of this into account, adding a player like the Lazio hitman to United's ranks is surely just what Erik ten Hag needs to freshen up the squad and give them a bit more bite in midfield.

The Manchester club should definitely do all they can to make sure they land the Serbian's signature this summer as he could just be their next Fernandes; a creative and goal-scoring threat from midfield.
