An update has emerged on Manchester United and their interest in Milan Skriniar during the January transfer window...

What's the talk?

According to French outlet Media Foot, the Red Devils have scheduled a meeting with the player's representatives to discuss a possible deal this month.

The report claims that the Premier League giants want to meet with the defender's agent in order to discover what his contract demands would be.

It is stated that the Slovakian international is eyeing up a transfer to the English top-flight and that United have the potential to seduce him.

Bye-bye Harry Maguire

Erik ten Hag can finally ditch England international Harry Maguire by securing a deal to sign Skriniar from Inter, whether this month or in the summer.

The centre-back's current contract with the Italian giants expires at the end of the current season. It remains to be seen whether United are hoping to land him on a cut-price transfer before the end of January or on a pre-contract to sign him for nothing in July.

Ten Hag signing Skriniar would allow him to sanction the sale, or loan exit, of one of his current central defenders and a certain former Leicester man could be on the chopping block.

Maguire, who is reportedly on £190k-per-week, has only started four Premier League matches this season, after being named in the XI 28 times last term, as he has fallen behind Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in the pecking order when it comes to centre-back options.

This suggests that ten Hag does not see him as an essential player, in regards to the starting XI, and a move away from Old Trafford in hope of regular football elsewhere could be the right move for the dud's career.

Skriniar, who former teammate Adam Zilak once dubbed "incredible", has been a crucial member of Inter's team in the Serie A this season as he has started 15 times, after starting 66 league matches in the previous two campaigns combined.

He averaged Sofascore ratings of 7.07 and 7.05 across the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons respectively, whilst Maguire is averaging a score of 7.00 in the Premier League this term and managed a rating of 6.91 in 2021/22.

This suggests that the Inter tank, who is also two years younger than the United defender, has the potential to be an upgrade on him at the heart of the defence, as he has proven that he can consistently deliver superb performances in a major European league.
