Manchester United could make a move for Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries this winter, with the club poised to bolster the squad across multiple departments despite the progress made already under Erik ten Hag.

Indeed, United’s manager, appointed last year has made a resounding impact at the Theatre of Dreams, stamping home an eye-catching philosophy and instilling belief and confidence through the entire squad.

The Dutch tactician has already signed compatriot and imposing talisman Wout Weghorst to adopt the striking role for the remainder of the season - a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, whose indignation over his role at the club resulted in a mutual agreement to terminate his contract - and now could move for a fellow countryman in Dumfries.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Ten Hag is to continue to place emphasis on his compatriots in order to shape his United team into the crafting that he desires, capable of competing for major honours both domestically and continentally season upon season.

And Dumfries is at the forefront of the desires, with the player able to leave if the right offer arrives, potentially one in the region of €40m (£35m).

The Red Devils do have two options at right-back: Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka; the latter, a £50m signing from divisional rivals Crystal Palace has been deemed expendable while the Portuguese Dalot could do with competition to enhance the collective efforts of that section of the squad.

Dalot has indeed been impressive this season, but Dumfries would offer a "deadly" offensive edge - as dubbed by Marco Messina -  that few sides can offer from deep within the defensive ranks.

Dumfries certainly has no issue in seeking out forward openings, with the 42-cap Netherlands international's attacking prowess well-known over the past few seasons; for Inter, the ace has scored seven goals and ten assists since the start of last season, and his dynamic presence could indeed pay dividends for the Red Devils in their offensive endeavours.

Arriving at the Theatre of Dreams, Dumfries could adopt the mantle of former full-back Antonio Valencia, who made 339 appearances for United, scoring 25 goals and providing a rampaging 62 assists, winning a plethora of major honours including two Premier League trophies.

As per Whoscored, the Ecuadorian Valencia averaged a total of 1.3 key passes and 0.6 shots per game while maintaining an impressive passing accuracy of 84.7%, and Dumfries, with his similar skill-set, could well follow a similar blueprint to great effect.

While Dalot is a talented full-back, deploying the "terror" that is Dumfries into the fold will only enhance the club's prospects of success laden in silverware under Ten Hag's tenure, and a move must be made this winter in order to secure the signature of an immense bundle of energy, adding a dimension to an already multi-faceted outfit.
