Manchester United are on the hunt for a forward, and have eyed up Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder.
Monaco had to shell out €40m (£34m) for his services from Sevilla, so will want to recoup as much of that fee as possible.
As the World Cup looms, he will want to put himself in the best position to play understudy to Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema.
Wissam Ben Yedder has scored goals at almost every club he has been at, with his diminutive frame but powerful attacking play often leaving defenders devastated.
United could do with a consistent amount of goals, especially if Cristiano Ronaldo is to be leaving as rumoured.
Since making the move to France back in 2019, his goal tally has slowly increased year on year, from 18 goals in 2019/20 to 20 strikes in 2020/21. He is only improving with age, and with the World Cup this winter, he reaches the summit of his career.
His consistency in front of goal and general linkup play has earned him an average SofaScore rating of 7.16 for the season, again outlining his ability to perform for his club across the whole season.
After inspiring a comeback win back in May, he was lauded by his manager for the impact he has on his team. Phillipe Clement had the following to say after their win over Brest:
“Wissam brings confidence and stability to his teammates, he is very important in the construction of our game, the opponents fear him and he opens up spaces for others.
“He’s not a big builder, but he has really specific qualities. He reminds me a bit of Romario, with typical futsal actions, although the Brazilian was a bit more explosive.”
To compare him to a Brazilian legend is the highest of all praise, and it does make sense due to his explosive nature with Zach Lowy also dubbing him “underrated.”
He would surely take to the Premier League well, and outlining his consistency in front of goal over the last few seasons suggests that he could replace Ronaldo’s goals and help the team potentially function even better.
