Didier Drogba could be in line for a move to LA, according to reports in The Mirror. LA Galaxy have been looking towards signing another ageing star from Europe should Beckham refuse to sign a new contract and they have identified the Chelsea striker as a potential target.
Drogba, now 33, is out of contract in the summer and is yet to sign a new deal with the west London club. Since the arrival of Fernando Torres Drogba is no longer a guaranteed starter for Chelsea and the Los Angeles based team will be hoping they can tempt the striker in to a trans Atlantic switch. However Galaxy’s attempts to bring the Ivory Coast captain to the MLS face competition from incredibly wealthy club Anzhi Makhachkala who are also rumoured to be interested in Drogba.
Drogba has reiterated his desire to stay at Chelsea on a number of occasions and his start against Liverpool on Sunday demonstrated that he could feature in Andre Villas-Boas’ plans. However contract talks have been held for some time now with the conclusion no clearer and with LA Galaxy reportedly ready to offer the powerful striker a £5m per year deal the temptation of one final pay day could be too large a temptation for Drogba.
