Newcastle's takeover by the Prince Investment Fund sparked enormous celebration around St James' Park.

This was a moment to savour as Mike Ashley finally left the city behind as the Magpies secured enormous financial backing from Saudi Arabia.

Sadly, it's not gone swimmingly so far.

What's the word?

Amanda Staveley and co kept Steve Bruce at the helm for a week following the takeover and allowed him to stand in the St James' dugout for his 1000th game in management.

However, he has now left the club and in charge, on an interim basis, is Graeme Jones.

He has taken just a point from his two games in charge with PIF enduring a winless start to their life in the city.

Fortunately, things are now set to accelerate. That's according to Duncan Castles of The Times who shared an exciting update last night that Newcastle were set to step up their chase for a new manager.

A report reads: "The Sunday Times understands that minority owner and club director Amanda Staveley is due to make recommendations on the dual roles this week to the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the Saudi sovereign wealth fund that holds 80 percent of Newcastle’s shares."

Fans buzzing

After the takeover went through a number of weeks ago Newcastle supporters would have been hoping for a lightning-quick start under the new owners.

Indeed, after Callum Wilson fired the Toon Army in front against Spurs in the early minutes of Bruce's final game, it looked as though things were rosier.

They eventually lost that clash and they are still yet to secure a win in the Premier League this season.

A recent survey with fans suggested that 95.3% of them expected the club to be relegated and a lack of action by PIF since their arrival in the north-east has only seen those fears grow.

It is still two months before the transfer window opens and there is a desperate need for players with more quality in the squad.

However, first and foremost, is finding a new manager. The likes of Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Erik ten Hag have all been linked with the vacancy but who takes charge remains to be seen.

Either way, after a slow start on the pitch following the takeover, supporters will undoubtedly be elated that their managerial hunt now has a renewed sense of urgency.

The Magpies need a fix and they need it as soon as possible.
