Newcastle United changed their managers midway through the 2021/22 campaign as they appointed Eddie Howe to replace Steve Bruce in November 2021.

PIF completed their takeover of the Magpies from Mike Ashley and made an instant change in the dugout in an attempt to keep the team in the Premier League.

They then gave the ex-Bournemouth boss financial backing in January, with Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Bruno Guimaraes, and Chris Wood all coming in on permanent deals.

Howe was active again in his second window in charge of the Toon as he, alongside Dan Ashworth, brought in Sven Botman, Matt Targett, Nick Pope, and Alexander Isak permanently, whilst also signing Loris Karius on a free transfer.

This means that the Englishman has made nine permanent signings in less than a year in charge of Newcastle, which has left a number of players in the squad with reduced roles.

The likes of Matt Ritchie, Jamaal Lascelles, and Paul Dummett have found themselves as squad options and may be considering their respective futures if they are unable to break into the starting XI any time soon.

Dummett, in particular, is a player who could be on his way out of St. James' Park in the not-too-distant future. He is out of contract at the end of the campaign and Howe must ruthlessly bin the 30-year-old defender, whether that is by selling him in January or allowing him to leave for nothing next summer.

The Welshman missed 20 games through injury last term but only made 13 of the last 15 matches of the season and this suggests that the manager does not trust him to play regular minutes in the side.

Back in December 2019, Transfermarkt valued him at £6.3m and he was a key member of the team at that point as he played 26 top-flight games in the 2018/19 season.

However, his struggles with form - ranking 13th and 15th in the Toon squad for SofaScore ratings in the following two seasons - and injuries in the subsequent years have taken their toll. He is currently (22/09/22) valued at £1.35m by Transfermarkt, which means that his value has plummeted by roughly 79% in three years.

Dummett has fallen down the pecking order at Newcastle at a similar rate and has not made a single appearance in the league this season, sitting on the bench in three matches and failing to make the squad in the others.

Therefore, the £35k-per-week dud must be ruthlessly binned by Howe in 2023 as he is not contributing to the team on the pitch and saving his wages could free up funds to be used elsewhere.
