An exciting claim has emerged on Newcastle United academy midfielder Elliot Anderson regarding his international future...

What's the talk?

Daily Mail reporter Craig Hope has claimed that the Three Lions are attempting to secure his services ahead of Scotland.

The attacking midfielder is currently on loan at Bristol Rovers and he is now being tipped to play in the top-flight with the Magpies for Eddie Howe's team, according to Hope.

He Tweeted: "Exc: England preparing move for NUFC’s Elliot Anderson, who has been involved with Scotland U21s, as former super scout Graham Carr compares playmaker to Peter Beardsley & says he’s ready for Premier League now after being blown away by teenager at weekend."

The journalist then quoted Carr as saying: “He is classy. He receives the ball like Peter Beardsley. He kills it & moves it all in one motion. That is a gift. He stood out like a sore thumb, miles above anyone else. I got in the car afterwards & started ringing people to talk about him.”

Buzzing

Newcastle supporters will surely be buzzing with this news for multiple reasons.

Firstly, this claim suggests that England see Anderson as one for the future. It would be illogical for them to be making a move to prise him away from Scotland if they did not think that he has the potential to play for the Three Lions at senior level, which speaks volumes of how much he has impressed at youth level and now for Bristol Rovers in the Football League.

Magpies fans will love to know that they have such a talented young prospect to look forward to seeing play in the coming years. He is a local lad from Whitley Bay and this may give supporters an extra reason to root for him because he is 'one of their own'.

The St. James' Park faithful will also be delighted with Carr's assessment of his talents, with his form in League Two catching the eye. In the fourth tier this season, Anderson has produced three goals and two assists in 13 games for the Gas. He has averaged an impressive SofaScore rating of 6.98, creating 1.3 chances per game from central midfield.

This has prompted England to make their move for him and Magpies fans will be excited with the prospect of seeing him represent the club in the Premier League in the future if he is able to fulfil the potential that his country of birth believes he has.
