Newcastle United still interested in Alexander Isak transfer

Newcastle United still have Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak on their transfer radar.

What’s the news?

According to a recent report from Chronicle Live, the Magpies still have an interest in signing the striker, despite having a reported bid of £40m knocked back by Sociedad in July.

The report adds that the Spanish club would prefer a fee closer to £50m to let their centre-forward go.

The fact that the Toon reportedly still have an interest in the player, despite having a bid rejected for him, suggests that they haven’t given up on signing him and could well try again to secure his signature before the summer transfer window closes.

Having made 213 club appearances at senior and youth levels, the 22-year-old has 81 goals to his name in total as well as 19 assists, highlighting his deadliness in front of goal.

PIF’s best signing yet

Since he arrived at Sociedad back in the summer of 2019, the Swedish international has found the net 43 times in 130 appearances across all competitions.

Last season saw the youngster make 32 La Liga appearances for his side, ending the campaign with more shots at goal (71) and more shots on target (32) than any other player at the club, which shows how much of a danger he can be for opposition goalkeepers.

To compare that with Newcastle’s previous Premier League campaign, Isak racked up more attempts at goal and shots on target than any Toon player.

Should Newcastle sign Alexander Isak this summer?

Bearing in mind how Newcastle’s current strike options of Callum Wilson and Chris Wood have both hit the age of 30, securing a deal for the 22-year-old could be a great long-term investment for the club.

Also, with Wilson having a significant injury record and Wood only being able to score two goals in 17 appearances for the Tyneside club, this further highlights the need to add another striker to the squad.

With Isak’s clear attacking prowess and fairly young age, securing a deal for him before the end of the transfer window could be PIF’s best bit of business yet as they would not only be getting a potential long-term figure for the club but also someone that could immediately become a regular first-team starter.

Not to mention the fact that they haven’t ‘splashed the cash’ as many expected just yet, with no fewer than six new arrivals since they took charge of the club.

Hailed as an “exceptional talent” by Gary Lineker, Isak could be worth seeing the Magpies increase their initial offer of £40m to see if the Spanish club would be willing to let him go this summer.
