Newcastle United finished their latest Premier League season in 11th after successfully turning around what had been a nightmare first half of the campaign.

Despite their fine end to the season, the Toon still only netted 44 goals throughout the campaign, fewer than the likes of Crystal Palace, Brentford and Aston Villa managed to score.

One man in Eddie Howe's squad who played a big part in the team's sporadic attacking successes was Allan Saint-Maximin.

In 35 league appearances, the Frenchman ended the season with five goals and five assists to his name, leaving him with more goal contributions than any other Toon player.

Now that the season has ended with Howe's side closer to the top half of the league table than the relegation zone, the club's focus can turn to the upcoming summer transfer window.

In terms of potential new recruits, one man who has been linked with a move to St James' Park and who Howe could use to create a deadly attacking duo with Saint-Maximin is Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Having made 191 appearances for the Toffees across all competitions, the striker has found the net 58 times and delivered 18 assists in the process, highlighting just how capable he is of making an impact in the final third.

His latest goal for the Merseyside club saw the striker guarantee Everton's top-flight safety during their dramatic 3-2 win over Crystal Palace at Goodison Park, showing how clinical he can be when the stakes are at their highest.

In addition, the 25-year-old ended the campaign with the joint-highest rate for shots on target per 90 minutes at Everton with 0.77.

Hailed as a "fabulous" player who has "swagger" in the way he plays the game, according to Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness, Calvert-Lewin certainly seems to have what it takes to be a great prospective signing for Newcastle.

Also, with Saint-Maximin racking up more shot-creating actions (114) and goal-creating actions (nine) than any other Toon player in the league this season, having him supply chances for the England international could be an exciting prospect for the Tyneside club.

If Newcastle want to test Everton's resolve at being able to keep hold of their star striker, this could be the ideal summer signing for Howe to give his team an extra dynamic at the top of the pitch.
