As Eddie Howe begins to build a new era at Newcastle United, one area of the club he will be keen to tap more into, is the academy.

The Magpies have had very little success on that front in recent years, with the Longstaff brothers perhaps the closest to teasing the Toon Army with a real break-0ut.

But, in 19-year-old forward, Dylan Stephenson, Howe could arguably find the Tyneside club's crown jewel.

Able to play anywhere across the front-line, but at his most lethal through the middle, Stephenson has already the caught eye at academy level, with the club's U18 manager, Neil Winskill, left raving about him following a hat-trick against Leeds United in the FA Youth Cup late last season.

He said: "I’m thrilled for Dylan because he is such an honest, hard-working lad. He’s the type of player any team would like to have in their XI, who’s going to really put a shift in for you.

"Every game and training session, the physical stats come through and he’s always top of the charts but we had a chat during the week about the need for him to be consistent with his quality, and he spoke to me about how he thinks people will judge him on goals."

As per Transfermarkt, in the 30 games that he played up front at youth level, Stephenson has scored an impressive 18 times and set up another, while in the 24 games he's featured out wide on the right, he's bagged on seven occasions and provided three assists.

It was no surprise then that the teenager was one of a few young talents who were given their first pro deal by the club, and he's already started repaying that trust on the pitch - his five goals in three games at the start of the season saw him nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for August.

Newcastle fans have previously voiced their excitement about the teenager following a superb performance against Birmingham City for the club's U23s earlier in the campaign, and given how St James' Park is finally starting to rock under Howe, Stephenson could really capture the imagination on Tyneside.

The 19-year-old could be the crown jewel of this exciting new era at St James' Park.

Meanwhile, this Newcastle star has been a dream signing...
